Dear reader,

Beachread is a love letter wrapped in software for all books.

Reading is solitary. You give a book hours of your life, your undivided attention. You live in its world for days, weeks, sometimes months. Then it’s over, and what are you supposed to do with all that? Write a review? Give it a star rating?

I want to talk about it.

Beachread is for finding people who have read the same book and want to meet in real life to talk about it. You and I might not have much else in common, but for however many hours we spent reading, we were in the same world. I think that’s the start of a great conversation.

That’s why I built Beachread over the summer of 2026.

And I called it Beachread because I don’t think any book is unworthy of a conversation. A “beach read” is often considered a lesser read. Something easy, something you take on vacation. But in reality, it might also be the only book someone picks up and finishes all year.

Every book can and should be a Beachread—loved, enjoyed, left behind at the end of a vacation, or flown home and added to an alarmingly sprawling book collection.

Whether you gave it five stars or none (but one, as per the review rules), there’s something to talk about. Meeting up to do that should be as easy as picking up a book.

I won’t deny it: book clubs can scratch that itch. But I don’t always want someone else choosing what I read, or deciding when I need to finish it. Sometimes I want to take my time; other times I binge it in a sitting and need to discuss the ending NOW.

So Beachread is exactly that “club”. There’s no required reading list. No pressure to read at someone else’s pace, no monthly schedule, no hosting duties.

Beachread is for the travelers, the stragglers, the introverts and extroverts, the people who read constantly and the people who can only manage one book a year on vacation. Book clubs aren’t for everyone, but in-person book discussion should be.

When it came to building it, I wanted to keep that same ethos. I’m anti-algorithm. I don’t think an algorithm should decide who you meet or what you read. A shared book and a real desire to talk are enough. Even though Beachread has chat functionality, it’s really only there to help you make a plan to meet face-to-face.

I want Beachread to bring people into local cafés and support independent bookshops. Books already give us something to talk about. The rest should be simple.
