Community Guidelines.

• Show up, or cancel early. Someone is saving you a seat.
• Meet in public. Always at a café, never at someone's home.
• Be kind. Argue about the book, never the person.
• Speak up. Report anything that feels off.

Beachread is for adults, 18 and over, who want to talk about a book in person. Everything below spells out what those four rules mean.

These guidelines apply in the app, at the table, and to how you treat readers you met through Beachread afterwards, online or off. If a reader tells us about something that happened outside the app, we'll look at it too.

A group is small, so every seat counts. If you can't make it, leave the plan as early as you can so the others can settle a time without you. Readers who keep leaving groups waiting may lose access.

• Meet at a café or another public place the group agreed on in the plan. Never invite readers to your home, and never go to theirs.
• Tell someone you trust where you're going. Leave whenever you want to.
• Beachread doesn't check who readers are and isn't at the table. Use your own judgement.
• Keep an eye on your drink and your things. Drink as much or as little as you like, and never push anyone to drink.
• Come on your own. Don't bring friends or a partner unless the group has agreed in the plan.
• Be a good guest. Be kind to café staff; the café is someone's workplace.
• Never send, lend or ask for money, card details or crypto, before or after a meetup. Anyone who asks is breaking our rules. Report them.
• If you ever feel unsafe, leave and call the local emergency number (112 anywhere in the EU). Then tell us.

• Disagree about the book as much as you like. Keep it about the book.
• No harassment, threats, hate speech, or sexual messages or advances, in a plan or at the table.
• A meetup is not a date. Don't pursue a reader who hasn't asked you to, during or after the meetup. Don't look up where another reader lives or works, and don't turn up there.
• What someone shares at the table stays at the table. Don't post it, record it or pass it on.

• A plan is a shared space for arranging the meetup, not private messaging. Save the book talk for the table.
• Don't share your email address, phone number, home address or social handles in a plan, and don't ask others for theirs.
• Beachread may review messages in a plan to keep the community safe.

• One account per person, in your own name, and you must be 18 or over.
• No impersonation, no fake accounts, and no sharing your account.
• No spam, advertising, selling or recruiting in groups.
• No attempts to break, scrape or overload the service, or to use a partner café's check-in code outside a real meetup.

Some things end your account straight away, and we report them to the police:

• any sexual content involving a minor, or any attempt to contact a minor through Beachread;
• violence or threats of violence;
• spiking someone's drink;
• stalking;
• fraud.

When we believe someone's life or safety is at risk, we tell the authorities, as the law requires.

• Report a reader or a message from the … menu in the plan, or by pressing and holding the message. A person at Beachread reads every report.
• Write @support in a plan and someone from Beachread will step into it.
• Block a reader from the same menu. You leave the plans and tables you share with them, neither of you can join a group the other is in, and their messages are hidden from you. They aren't told. You can undo it in Settings → Blocked readers.
• You can always email support@beachread.club, including about something that happened at a meetup.

What we do depends on how serious it was and whether it has happened before. For a first, minor slip, we usually remove the message and send a reminder. Repeated or more serious behaviour leads to a suspension, for a set time or until further notice. The most serious cases, including anything under "Things we never allow", mean we close the account for good. A person at Beachread makes every one of these decisions; the only automatic checks are limits on how often codes can be requested and a screen on shelf text.

If we act on your content or your account, we email you what we did and for how long, which rule it broke and the facts we relied on, and how to ask us to look again.

Asking us to look again: reply to that email, or write to support@beachread.club, within six months. Where we can, someone who wasn't part of the first decision will review it, and we'll tell you the outcome and why. You can also take the matter to the courts.

Reporting in bad faith, for example filing repeated false reports against someone, is itself against these guidelines.

If something breaks the law or puts someone in danger, we may also pass it to the authorities.
